Grants of up to $5,000 to West Virginia nonprofit organizations, schools, and government agencies for arts programs that engage youth in rural communities. Funding is intended to support publicly accessible arts projects that promote the participation of youth in the planning and implementation stages.
Program purpose:
To provide support for visual two- and three-dimensional public art projects that engage local youth in the planning and/or implementation of the project.
Projects may be indoors or outdoors but must be in a public place and experienced free of charge.
Who May Apply:
- Schools
- West Virginia 501(c)(3) organizations
- Local governments
- Organizations must be exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and be chartered in West Virginia as a nonprofit organization for at least one year prior to application.
- Local, county, and state agencies must demonstrate that the arts programs they are sponsoring serve the community at large and are not restricted to special populations.
- Public or private educational institutions (such as elementary and secondary schools) and school boards are eligible. Private educational institutions must be nonprofit and meet the tax-exempt requirements listed above.
- Public and private colleges and universities must demonstrate arts service to the community at large with no restriction to campus or special populations. Colleges and universities may apply for a maximum of 33% of eligible costs. Colleges and universities are not eligible to apply for Cultural Facilities and Capital Resources grants.
- Cross-state-border projects initiated by a West Virginia arts organization must demonstrate clear service to West Virginia audiences.
All organizations applying for funding from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History will be required to have a Unique Entity ID (UEI) from SAM.gov in alignment with requirements from the National Endowment for the Arts.
No organization will receive a grant that totals more than 25% of the operating budget of the organization’s last completed fiscal year.
Applicants must provide a 25% match to the total project costs. Applicants must identify resources for matching funds within their application.
First-time applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a draft of their application to arts staff for review prior to the application deadline.
